Michael Mills

Dr. Michael Mills is the Associate Senior Vice President of Equitable Access and Student Success at Montgomery College in Montgomery County, Maryland.  In that capacity he oversees distance education, staff and faculty professional development, open educational resources initiatives, including MC Open, and academic support such as the learning centers and library, and various international activities.  A faculty fellowship he co-founded that focuses on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and open pedagogy received the Award for Excellence in the Open Pedagogy category in 2020. 

Dr. Mills has served on different statewide and national boards representing Montgomery College. He currently serves as Chair of MarylandOnline, a statewide consortium focusing on distance education.  He previously served on the executive council for the national Community College Consortium for Open Educational Resources and on the board of Quality Matters, an international organization dedicated to improving the quality of online learning.  He is also a past president of the Maryland Distance Learning Association.

He holds doctorate and master’s degrees in educational leadership from the University of Delaware and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland.
