Yasser Tamer Atef, a 2023 Open Education Award recipient in the student category, is a passionate disability advocate, student, researcher, and workshop facilitator. He is currently pursuing his undergraduate studies in English and Comparative Literature at the American University in Cairo, with minors in Educational Studies and Linguistics. Yasser’s deep love for education and meaningful dialogue has inspired him to explore various paths within this field. His facilitation journey began at the Mid-Year Festival (MYFest) in 2022, and he further honed his skills by completing the Online Dialogue Facilitation course and the Connect program with Soliya, which enriched both his interpersonal connections and professional growth.
A dedicated champion of equity and inclusion, Yasser’s commitment is evident in his role as a co-facilitator for the Intentionally Equitable Hospitality series in 2023 and 2024. He also co-organized the three-month Mid-Year Festival (MYFest) with Equity Unbound, where he hosted and designed workshops in both 2023 and 2024. As a disability activist, Yasser is driven by a desire to offer inclusive support and foster a strong sense of equity.
With a wide range of interests and a solid academic record, Yasser embodies versatility. He actively writes and engages in discussions on topics close to his heart, including disability inclusion, visual impairment, equity in pedagogy, and the evolving role of generative artificial intelligence (AI).
