Canada
Kimberlee (Kim) Carter, is Associate Director, Libraries & Open Learning at Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Kim leads the Open Learning and Library Services Teams, which include paid student positions.
Kim originally caught the Open bug in 2017, and that led to a collaborative and crowdsourced OER, Building a Medical Terminology Foundation, with over 2.2 million pageviews to date. The updated 2nd edition came out just last Fall (2024), accompanied by a digital colouring book and workbook. Kim, along with collaborators Marie Rutherford and Connie Stevens, went on to create and publish Therapeutic Communication for Health Care Administrators digital text and game simulations OER.
Kim left a permanent teaching role to lead the open program at Conestoga in 2022. The open learning team, collaborating with faculty partners and students, has produced and shared over 45 OER resources, including open courses, impacting students across the globe and saving Conestoga students over $6 million in textbook costs. Having recently secured a $500,000 grant, open work continues, and Kim, along with the libraries and open learning teams, looks forward to sharing that work with the Open community over the next 2 years.
As a past winner of an Open Education Global award, Kim is thrilled to be serving as a reviewer to spotlight the hard work and dedication of others in the Open Community.
