Founded in 2009 by Dr. David Wiley as the Open High School of Utah, Mountain Heights Academy was the first secondary school to design its entire curriculum as open educational resources (OER) and share it freely with the world. Inspired by trailblazers such as MIT and the Open University, the school embraced openness from the start, creating a model for how secondary education could contribute to the global OER movement.
Today, the impact of this pioneering work continues to resonate. Through openhighschoolcourses.org, hundreds of thousands of learners worldwide have accessed and benefited from the freely available curriculum—evidence of Mountain Heights Academy’s enduring commitment to openness, innovation, and educational access.
