Dr. Shinta Hernandez’s transformative leadership extends beyond her roles in community college academic support and leadership development. She advances equity and access through Open Education locally, nationally, and globally, through years of service to CCCOER and OEGlobal, co-founding and co-leading the UN Sustainable Development Goals Open Pedagogy Fellowship in North America, and providing executive direction to its Asia Chapter – with vision, compassion, and lasting impact.

Dr. Shinta Hernandez exemplifies the priorities of Open Education by advancing equity, inclusion, and global collaboration through her visionary leadership and community-centered practice. Her work with CCCOER, the UN SDG Open Pedagogy Fellowship, and Montgomery College demonstrates a sustained commitment to making education accessible, participatory, and socially just, particularly for historically underserved students. By fostering cross-border collaboration, empowering faculty and students to co-create knowledge, and centering equity in every initiative, she has built impactful, adaptable, and inclusive models of open pedagogy that serve as public goods. Dr. Hernandez not only leads with integrity and compassion but also embodies the OEGlobal principles of transparency, shared decision-making, and community stewardship, ensuring that Open Education remains transformative, sustainable, and rooted in justice.
