The top reason this nomination deserves to be recognized with a 2025 Open Education Award for Excellence is their sustained leadership and impactful contributions over 15 years to open education and open source, advancing equitable and affordable learning opportunities for underserved communities worldwide through innovative tools, mentorship, and community-building. Srishti is an Open Source Leader and Advocate who has worked in educational technologies for the past 15 years. For the last nine years, she has served as a Senior Developer Advocate at the Wikimedia Foundation, the organization behind Wikipedia and its sister projects, whose mission is to provide access to free knowledge.
Srishti embodies the spirit and goals of Open Education by championing openness, inclusivity, and global collaboration through her long-standing leadership in the Wikimedia movement and beyond. Her work has empowered diverse technical communities across continents, lowered barriers to participation in open knowledge platforms, and expanded access to multilingual and locally relevant resources. Through Unstructured Studio, she has brought creative, open-ended learning opportunities to tens of thousands of children in rural India, demonstrating how open tools can serve as a public good that is adaptable, participatory, and socially just. Her technical contributions to Unhangout and Wikimedia tools further reflect the OEGlobal principles of transparency, collaboration, and continuous improvement, while her community-building efforts amplify diverse voices in open education. By uniting technological innovation with humanistic values, Srishti advances a more inclusive and impactful open education ecosystem.
