Digital Ethnography Jember demonstrates how local cultural heritage can be transformed into openly accessible educational resources through Wikimedia platforms and community participation.
It combines cultural documentation, open licensing, and educational engagement to make underrepresented local knowledge available for learning, teaching, and research. Through Wikimedia Commons, Wikidata, and Wikibooks, the initiative enables educators, students, researchers, and the public to access, reuse, and expand cultural knowledge under open licenses.
Building on earlier initiatives such as WikiMelayu and Wikimedia-based training programs, the project has supported new contributors in documenting and sharing local knowledge while promoting open education practices. By connecting cultural preservation with open knowledge, it offers a practical and replicable model for creating sustainable educational resources from local cultural heritage.
