Recognized as a Leader in OpenCourseWare and Open Education
This Special Award honors Stephen Carson’s contribution to Open Education Global from its start, leading the incorporation of the OpenCourseWare Consortium as a Massachusetts non-profit organization in 2008, securing its initoal funding, and serving as a board member and President of the Consortium 2008-2011.
From the nominator:
Stephen Carson is recognized for his leadership in the open education movement. Through his work with MIT OpenCourseWare, he led the development of the community of institutions promoting OpenCourseWare. From across the United States to Japan to Taiwan to China he brought together the initial set of institutions with their OpenCourseWare sites and formed the collaborative consortium we know today as OEGlobal where he served as founding president of the OpenCourseWare Consortium.
Moving beyond MIT OpenCourseWare, he led the growth of OPENPediatrics, a peer-reviewed platform to share open educational resources to support the care of sick children worldwide. It is fitting that Stephen Carson be awarded an OEAward (from the organization he helped launch in 2008) as a pioneer himself in the open education movement.
Stephen has been a key player in some highly influential open education initiatives that have had a global reach. He was a pioneer in the open education movement, including in the formation of what eventually became OEGlobal.
